Summary

Pearson wanted to create a direct-to-consumer app for higher ed students, given students' desire to find affordable and reliable educational materials. We are constantly supporting the improvement and growth of Pearson+ to continue this effort, but since its launch, students have responded very well, giving the app a 4.8-star rating in the Apple App Store.

Obstacles
  • The cost of reliable, accessible, and modernized educational material is the number one complaint we hear from students.
  • We needed to consider and elevate all content formats within Pearson's extensive library, from PDF to HTML formats, to a consumer-grade experience.
  • Existing tech debt needed to be considered in planning and execution while keeping an innovative mindset.
  • Students are still getting comfortable reading and note-taking within a digital environment. They see a huge benefit in the tactile experience of writing as a form of study.
Reflections + Outcomes

The power of opening a dialogue with users within an iterative mindset can fundamentally change the way the consumer views a company, we turned 1-star reviews to 5-star reviews by forming relationships with students and taking their feedback to heart, allowing them to see improvements quickly. Nothing is done, ever. You can be proud of imperfect.
